Don't Listen to Everyone's Lies About Iran: Why Post-Regime Iran Reshapes Energy and Tech

After 47 years of dictatorship, a country of about 90 million people with a 98% youth literacy rate and vast energy reserves is positioned for a sharp reopening. Literacy Corps sent young teachers to remote villages across the country, and the literacy rate jumped from about 15 to 20% in the early 1960s to over 50% by the late 1970s. From about 1963 to 1977, Iran's GDP was growing at 9 to 10.5% per year on average. Between 2013 and 2022, Iran produced 2,700 AI research documents, the most of any Islamic nation by a massive margin. Before the 1979 revolution, over 90% of Iranian students studying abroad returned home. The total number of Iranian-born immigrants has grown from about 500,000 before the revolution to over 3 million as of 2019, and it's almost certainly higher now after the protests of '22 and 2025 and 2026. Overall, this points to specialized systems and vertically integrated players shaping what comes next far more than surface narratives suggest.
