Elon Just Made the Bet of the Century: Why Terafab Rewrites the Chip Stack

ASML is planning on only making 60 of these in 2026, with maybe another 10 to 20 on top by 27. 7 nanometers is incredibly tiny, about 10,000 times smaller than a human hair. Now, for TSMC's wafer, which is the actual circular piece of silicon that they print the chips on, at their most advanced 3 nanometer process, those run at about $19,000 per wafer. Basically a souped-up Starlink, which is their constellation of over 10,000 satellites providing internet globally and the company's cash cow, generating billions in revenue. TSMC has been manufacturing Tesla's AI 4 chip, their custom-designed AI accelerator built specifically for Tesla's workloads. Samsung signed an 8-year $16 billion agreement to produce Tesla's next-generation AI 6 chip on their 2-nanometer process at their Taylor, Texas facility. The Taylor fab goes online sometime this year in '26 with volume production expected in '27, likely by '28.
