Elon's New Product Will Slash the Price of Everything: Why Logistics Costs Collapse
The entire country runs on about 3 and 1/2 million people driving trucks and most of us never think about a single one of them for even 1 second of our lives. Tesla first showed it off all the way back in 2017 and then, like a lot of Tesla products, Roadster, it took way, way longer to actually arrive than anyone wanted. There are two versions, a standard one that goes about 325 mi on a single charge fully loaded and a long-range version that does about 500 mi fully loaded. And fully loaded means 82,000 lb, which is the maximum legal weight for a big rig on a US highway. It has three electric motors and it charges with something Tesla calls a Megacharger, which is basically a gas pump for electrons, except it can pour in around 60% of the truck's range in roughly 30 minutes. Pepsico's Tesla semis use about 1.7 kWh of electricity to move 1 mile.
