Then SpaceX came along with Falcon 9 and got the cost down to roughly $2,700 per kilogram, a 95% reduction. It's why solar panels that cost 76 bucks per watt in 1977 cost about 20 cents today. The Space Shuttle, which flew from 1981 to 2011, cost about $54,000 to put a single kilogram into low Earth orbit. But Starship, that vehicle that they saw being captured in October 24, at the beginning of this video, is projected to bring that cost down to somewhere between 78% and 94% per kilogram in the near term, with a long-term target of 10% to 20% per kilogram. So from 54,000% to 10% per kilogram, a 5,000 times cheaper. Each mirror is about 18 m by 18 m, which is roughly the size of a basketball court, but weighs only 16 kg or 35 lb, which is lighter than a large suitcase that one get overcharged for at he airport.
