Farzad: "Room to Negotiate" + "Please Bury the Hatchet"

Texas data centers led Farzad's feed again. Gavin Baker reports that Governor-elect Gina Hinojosa said already-permitted projects can finish. Thursday evening, Farzad's read was "there's room to negotiate." He also posted an open letter asking Elon and Democrats to bury the hatchet, and called a proposed SpaceX data center in Arizona "extremely eye opening."

Texas: Baker's read on existing permits

Gavin Baker, Thursday at 1:07pm CST: The governor-elect of Texas, Gina Hinojosa, has explicitly said that all currently permitted datacenters in Texas will be allowed to finish construction. This essentially covers all of the 2027 and likely well into 2028.

He writes that she "is going to pass laws" so that all newly permitted datacenters "for delivery in 2028/2029 will pay taxes, commit to no increase in power prices for consumers, don't impact water availability for people, be constructed with union labor and give 'Texans a seat at the table.'" His take: "Sounds reasonable. She doesn't want to lose a lot of good blue collar jobs and property taxes for small towns in rural Texas." He says the datacenter commentary starts at 6:30 in the interview he linked.

That's Gavin's interpretation, not an enacted policy. In the KTAB interview he linked, Hinojosa described a pause on approvals and new permits until protections pass. She did not promise that every permitted project would finish by 2027 or 2028. Those delivery dates are Baker's estimate. Farzad liked his post. Elon quoted it at 1:51pm CST with one word, "Interesting," and Farzad RTd Elon's post at 1:56pm CST.

At 7:15pm CST, Sawyer Merritt posted a quote he attributes to Hinojosa from a new CNN interview about Elon Musk and AI data centers:

Sawyer combined and shortened remarks from different parts of the interview. In CNN's transcript, Hinojosa said: "We can have a strong working relationship with Elon Musk and his companies, but it has to be on our terms." On data centers, she said: "we will have laws to protect Texans, and we need to stop what we are doing with data centers until we have those protections." She also said communities should decide "if and how" data centers come into their areas.

Sawyer's read is that she won't stop data centers that have already started construction or received all permits. He expects "a pause on any new permits once she is Governor until some sort of 'laws and protections' are put in place." He calls that "good news for SpaceX and other companies that have already secured permits for big data center capacity expansion in 2027," and adds: "Beyond that, we'll see." Farzad liked the post and RTd it at 7:26pm CST.

"There's room to negotiate"

At 5:53pm CST Thursday, DeItaone posted a headline from a CNN interview: "TEXAS GOVERNOR-ELECT GINA HINOJOSA: WE NEED TO STOP WHAT WE ARE DOING WITH DATA CENTERS UNTIL WE HAVE MEASURES TO PROTECT TEXANS."

Jason quoted it at 6:57pm CST: She's all in on data centers as long as they don't waste water and cause electricity to spike… just like all great politicians

He calls it "performative and a negotiation," and says every state wants every job and tax dollar it can get. His closer: she "is doing her job to get leverage," which he calls "SMART!"

Farzad liked Jason's post and quoted it at 7:33pm CST:

Just listen to the interviews - there's room to negotiate. They are just setting their terms.

I don't think AI is slowing down one bit.

Might honestly accelerate as the terms become clear and states begin to compete.

That's his projection. He doesn't name which states would compete or what the terms would be.

Jeff Lutz, 7:32pm CST: This is totally reasonable, deals will be made.

He criticizes predictions that all or most data centers will be canceled. His post links to a summary of Hinojosa's CNN remarks. The text returned by X ends with an ellipsis after "w/FUD"; it has no longer note_tweet text.

Farzad replied at 7:47pm CST: Negotiation.

And: Honestly I feel like this might be best case scenario in an extremely weird way.

That's his opinion.

"Please bury the hatchet"

At 11:17am CST Thursday, Farzad posted an open letter "to Elon Musk & the Democrat party." The ask: Please bury the hatchet.

He starts with the economy at home: "we have a growing K-shaped economy where those with assets are winning, and those without are losing." Then he turns to China: "our ability to be at the forefront of economic, social, and technological progress is being challenged by China. This is a fact, like it or not." In his view, "a divided country is the worst possible place to be in order to overcome these challenges."

He argues that cooperation could support jobs and technological progress. That is his view, not an announced agreement or a finding about the election.

This is Farzad's opinion and his ask. It doesn't report any deal. The pull shows no response from Elon or from any Democrat. At pull time the letter had 2,812 likes and 571 replies.

Cochise: SpaceX's pitch, as reported

Robin (xdNiBoR), Thursday at 12:25pm CST: The next SpaceX datacenter will be in Cochise Arizona. This is a proposal, not an approved or operating campus.

The post lists "~6 GW spread over 9 buildings," "No industrial water use," "No gas turbines and no on-site power generation," and "~3 miles away from the nearest homes." KVOA's report from the meeting independently describes approximately 6 GW at full build-out and up to nine computing buildings. The three-mile distance remains Robin's claim.

At 12:37pm CST he followed up with a video. He says it shows Riley Trettel, "Energy & Data Center Development at SpaceX," at "yesterdays Cochise Data Center meeting." Per xdNiBoR, Trettel "claims the project will deliver up to":

  • 40% off residential power bills for Sulphur Springs members, for the life of the project
  • $53 million a year to the SSVEC Foundation, for education and the community
  • $190 million a year in extra capital for Sulphur Springs, for projects or back to members
  • $200 million a year for AEPCO and its members, about $100 million of that for Sulphur Springs
  • $3.6 billion in new power lines, paid by SpaceX and given to the co-op, with the co-op taking on no debt
  • $30 to $100 million a year in new property tax, and a 20% cut in everyone else's county property taxes
  • $250 million, one time, in sales tax, which he said could pay off the jail bond and fund the sheriff, fire districts and the hospital
  • $50 billion invested in the project
  • 1,000 permanent jobs and 5,000 construction jobs
  • No industrial water, with staff and maintenance water about equal to 20 to 30 homes a year
  • No gas turbines and no power plant on site; the computers buy power from the co-op grid
  • Dark-sky lighting pointed at the ground, and cooling equipment more than 1,500 feet from any neighboring property line or public road

These are proposed benefits attributed to SpaceX's Riley Trettel by xdNiBoR, whose full post frames the list as "up to." They are not guaranteed payments or savings. Local reporting confirms the November 4 meeting, the proposed $50 billion scale and roughly 1,000 permanent jobs. The co-op's indexed project FAQ says no agreement is final and estimates depend on an Energy Services Agreement and Arizona Corporation Commission approval. Its first phase is 1.5 GW, with possible later expansion to 6 GW. xdNiBoR's own conclusion: "This project is clearly extremely positive for the area."

Farzad liked the post and quoted it at 2:09pm CST: Must watch.

And: Extremely eye opening.

Starship Flight 15: targeting November 13

Sawyer Merritt, Thursday at 3:09pm CST: SpaceX is currently targeting Friday, November 13th for Starship's 15th flight, according to SpaceX's VP of launch, @TurkeyBeaver.

Sawyer also expects the first tower-catch attempt of the upper-stage Starship. That is distinct from earlier Super Heavy booster catches, and an attempt is not a guaranteed successful catch.

That's a target date, reported by Sawyer and credited to SpaceX launch VP Kiko Dontchev (@TurkeyBeaver). Eric Berger's on-site report, quoted by Tesla North, also attributes November 13 to Dontchev at UP.Summit. That report does not confirm the catch profile. Farzad liked Sawyer's post and RTd it at 3:11pm CST.

Cybertruck production: Elon's plan

Elon, Friday at 12:30am CST: Tesla will be winding down production of the Cybertruck at Gigafactory Texas around the middle of next year to make room for increased Cybercab production

That's the whole post. It gives no timing beyond "around the middle of next year" and no production numbers.

Farzad liked it. At 7:14am CST he quoted it with a tearful farewell.

At 7:38am CST he replied to it directly: NNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Wes (wmorrill3) quoted Elon at 12:58am CST: Cybertruck was an incredible technology development platform and lives on through Cybercab.

He thanked "everyone who contributed to making the future looking like the future" and the owners "whose adventures I've enjoyed and will continue to follow." Farzad liked it and replied at 9:02am CST: 😭

Five minutes before the Cybertruck post, at 12:25am CST, Elon replied to Katie Miller: SoftBank is defaulting on their turbine orders

Katie Miller's post contains an image and quotes unusual_whales on a reported sale of about $500 million in data center loans, including financing for a Stargate site. It does not establish a turbine-order default. Elon doesn't identify which turbine orders or how many, and no SoftBank confirmation was found. Treat this as Elon's allegation, not a confirmed default. Farzad quoted it at 7:22am CST: 😱

Quick hits

Kalshi, Thursday at 1:43pm CST: JUST IN: SpaceXAI is the fastest growing software company, per Ramp data

Kalshi's wording is broader than Ramp's November report. Ramp calls SpaceXAI "the fastest growing vendor on Ramp" this month, using transactions across more than 85,000 businesses on its platform. That is not a worldwide company-growth ranking. Farzad liked Kalshi's post and quoted it at 3:51pm CST: Grok Bot.

Sawyer Merritt, Thursday at 2:33pm CST: NHTSA is launching a new initiative to modernize vehicle safety recalls, with a major focus on over-the-air (OTA) software updates.

His bullets say OTA fixes can achieve high completion rates without a dealership visit, and discuss electronic notices, state grants and automated vehicles. NHTSA's Federal Register notice confirms a November 5 Recalls Next meeting covering digital communication, OTA remedies and automated vehicles. The official grant listing confirms $1.5 million for state programs notifying owners of open recalls at registration. This is discussion of improvements, not a final rule replacing mailed recall notices. Farzad liked the post.
