Starship Is Still Floating in the Ocean
Starship was still in the water. The same week, SpaceX started hiring to build the most powerful AI clusters on Earth and off it.
Still floating
Elon posted that Starship was still floating in the ocean - 16 million views. A ship that survives the water is a ship you can iterate, and iteration is how you get to Mars.

Hiring for clusters on and off Earth
Elon said SpaceX is hiring exceptional engineering and skilled trades talent to build and operate the most powerful AI supercomputer clusters on and off Earth. Email three bullet points and a resume to datacenters@spacex.com. The next hyperscaler is a rocket company with clusters in orbit.

Grok 4.6, then 4.7
Elon said Grok 4.6 releases around August 7 as the 1.5T model with significantly improved SFT and RL, and Grok 4.7 follows a few weeks later as the 2.1T model - better in every way, slightly slower to serve. Weekly-scale model jumps become the product cycle, and everyone else looks frozen.

2,500 Cybercabs a year
I asked if I am reading this correctly: Cybercab limited to 2,500 per year for at least 3 years. If that cap holds, the volume has to come from cars with steering wheels and pedals.

The $2 to $3 trillion fight
The more obvious it becomes that self-driving is solved, the more vicious the attacks against self-driving cars. This is a $2 to $3 trillion ecosystem in the US. Self-driving cars are far safer than humans, who cause 40,000 traffic deaths and a million injuries a year in the US alone, and they remove the largest cost per mile - the driver. The incumbents will fight for a decade, and they will still lose to cheaper, safer miles.

Trump Accounts
Elon could gift about 10% to 20% of his net worth in the combined SpaceX/Tesla entity through Trump Accounts after milestones where a divest would not risk his ownership stake, and it should come with a massive tax benefit. A transfer tied to those milestones rewrites the politics of the whole stack.

Tesla China vs the merger
Tesla China will introduce complexities for a Tesla/SpaceX merger. They will have to do something to handle the national security implications of SpaceX and Tesla China under the same umbrella. The deal only closes if China is structurally separated from the SpaceX side.

Intelligence gets cheap, chips do not
I read the week as this: OpenAI and Anthropic are overvalued, intelligence will commoditize, demand for chips is just getting started, and data centers that produce the best intelligence per dollar per second will win massively. The next 20 years pay the people who own the watts and the wafers.
